Mombasa is an island city with eight centuries of trade in its streets. Fort Jesus has watched the harbour since 1593, and the lanes of Old Town behind it still sell spices, coffee and carved furniture the way they always have.
A morning is enough to fall for Old Town: the fort, the carved doors, the market, the dhow harbour. Mombasa is also the practical gateway — airport, SGR station and the road south to Shimba Hills all start here. Many guests walk the old town with us on arrival day, then head up the coast.
